I am ending this series of baby must-haves with a bedtime edition. There are not too many things we cannot live without when it comes to bedtime, but let me tell you, the things we do use are irreplaceable. Making sure my baby has good naps and a good nights rest is so important because it not only allows me to get good sleep, but gives me the time for self-care and doing things around the house without interruption. Now, I am not a baby sleep expert by any means, but after doing lots of reading around the five month mark, I discovered a few things that make naps much smoother for my Charlotte Lane. If your baby is having trouble napping I highly recommend checking out takingkarababies.com and investing in five out of the six items below!
OWLET | SLEEP SACK | BABY MONITOR | SOUND MACHINE | BLACKOUT CURTAINS | HOOKS
OWLET – This owlet provides such a great peace of mind especially in those first few months where SIDS is a higher risk. It monitors babies heart rate and oxygen, and alerts you when either is out of the “normal” range. This device allowed me to sleep without worry and was worth every penny. We only recently stopped using it, but it can be used until your baby is up to 18 months old.
WOOLINO SLEEP SACK – As soon as we were finished transitioning Charlotte out of her swaddle, I begin using this sleep sack. I love that it has some weight to it, that is comes in subtle but cute patterns, and is made from wool. The merino wool is said to help regulate babies temperature by creating a “micro-climate” around baby, among many other benefits. You can read about all of the benefits HERE.
MONITOR – This is the second monitor we have had. Buying a second product because we hate the first seems to be our thing. At least we get it right on the second, I guess? This monitor has a super clear image, zooms in and out, and has both a wall mount and crib mount (sold separately). My only complaint is the temperature gauge is not accurate.
SOUND MACHINE – This is a MUST-HAVE for sure. We have this turned up to full blast during both Charlotte’s naps and at nighttime. The white noise is not only supposed to help create a “womb-like” environment but it helps to block out noises that may disrupt babies sleep. CANNOT live without this thing!
BLACKOUT CURTAINS AND HOOKS – One of the most important things I took away from reading the takingcareofbabies.com blog was the importance of a babies room being pitch black. We put a black film on Charlotte’s windows but a lot of light was still peaking through, so we went ahead and hung these curtains behind our decorative curtains to block light. Because they are white and hung behind the decorative curtains they are completely unnoticeable and help to make Charlotte’s room completely black.
Happy Shopping!
