Since we are all practicing social distancing right now and spending more time at home than usual, I thought I would share some of the my habits to keeping a clean house in all of this chaos. Basically with spending more time at home comes more mess and sometimes it can get a bit overwhelming. I have been practicing these habits for almost two years now and I truly feel that they work and have prevented a lot of anxiety especially during this past week. My house is rarely a mess and that is because these strategies have truly become habbit.
ONE | HAVE A HOME FOR EVERYTHING
It is so important for every item in your home to have a specific place where it is stored. This helps to keep clutter clear of high traffic areas in your home and also prevents items from getting misplaced.
TWO | USE STORAGE CONTAINERS AND BINS
A great way to give items a home is to use storage bins. I love to use storage baskets and these plastic storage bins from target. This helps me to keep not only our drawers organized but also little nooks throughout our house. For example, my husband always knows where to find a pen or even tape, because their “home” is in their designated storage bins in our junk drawer.
THREE | CREATE A CLEANING SCHEDULE
This is much more simple than it sounds. By schedule I am meaning to just simply pick task or one space or area in your house to clean each day. For example, one day you could clean your bathrooms, and the next day your floors. This helps me to make sure I am keeping up on my household cleaning. The kitchen is not included in this schedule, however because in my home it is cleaned everyday.
FOUR | GRAB AND PUT AWAY ITEMS AS YOU GO
This is such a simple habit, but it is so extremely helpful in keeping a house picked up. Even when I am walking to the bathroom, I will make sure to grab at least one item from the floor or the counter and take them to their designated space. This is an especially efficient strategy with a toddler, because there are always items spread throughout the house that need picked up and put away.
FIVE | WASH DISHES AS YOU COOK
The final habit I have developed since being a mommy is doing dishes as I cook. I used to just pile up dishes in the sink and save them for after dinner, but there is no time for that now. Every second I have a break while cooking dinner, I get a dish or a utensil washed.
I hope my habits to keeping a clean house will be helpful to you. Stay safe and healthy!
