I am typically not one to make New Year’s resolutions because I like to set goals for myself several times throughout the year, but 2020 has been an exception to say the least. Because this year was a struggle in most aspects, there is no better time for both self-reflection and growth; therefore I am very up for making New Year’s resolutions for 2021.
I do have to say however, that though I am hopeful, I don’t expect everything from 2020 to disappear and to just magically get better when the clock turns to midnight. Therefore my goals are more so about my own personal mental healthy, my home, and my family.
2021 RESOLUTIONS
LEARN AND GROW AS A PARENT | Parenthood is full of learning and growth, but the age of two has brought on a whole new level of obstacles. In order to be the best parent I can be and to help Charlotte navigate through her development, I would love to read books on not only discipline but also childhood brain development. Therefore one of my resolutions is to read some literature on parenting, starting with 1-2-3 Magic (Effective Discipline for Children).
PRIORITIZE MENTAL HEALTH OVER PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS | This goal might sounds somewhat confusing to the outsider looking in, but basically I have a lot of expectations for myself in life and on a daily basis both as an individual and as a parent. Sometimes these expectations can cause me a lot of stress because I don’t want to be a “bad parent” or not get some of my daily tasks done. This year I would like to take a little pressure off of myself and allow myself to have it a bit “easier” from time to time, whether it be putting off cleaning the bathroom another day or letting Charlotte watch a little television from time to time.
MORE TIME FOR SPECIAL ACTIVITIES WITH CHARLOTTE | Charlotte is finally at an age where we can start doing fun little activities or art projects at home. Finger painting, holiday crafts, and water color painting are just a few things that come to mind.
MORE FAMILY OUTINGS | Although it may still be somewhat difficult given the current global situation, I would really love to go on more outings as a family! It is so fun to observe Charlotte in new elements, no matter how simple it may be- I hope to make this a weekly thing.
DATE NIGHTS | We have went on very few date nights since our sweet Charlotte Lane has come into the picture and I would really like that to change. Again date nights are all dependent on the pandemic, but once restaurants are open again, I would love to go on a date night with my husband at least once a month.
That’s all for now! Comment some of your New Year’s resolutions for 2021 below and have a Happy New Year!
